Where & Weather
Depending on the wind and the
tides, of course, RUBY is able to cover much of SF Bay in 2 hours. We
use our diesel engine to motor through the calms near shore and set sail
in the windy middle of the Bay. We pass Fishermen's Wharf, tack around
Alcatraz Island, and run down the city front. That's a 2-hour trip. Trips
out under the Golden Gate Bridge, to Sausalito, or around Angel Island
are more like 3 hours. Longer charters can include extended touring or
anchoring for lunch. We recommend sailing from 2 to 4 hours. We like to
keep the scenery and climate changing. Parts of the Bay are very windy
(scary) and parts are calm and warm (relaxing).

Pretend you're on a "ski trip"
and you'll have enough gear to say warm. Be prepared to shed layers in
the warm spots and bundle up in the cold ones. We usually get some of
both. RUBY also has a large collection of sailing jackets, gloves, hats
and blankets. The Bay gets cold-even in summer.
